"This is an unusual example of the sports fiction books for boys of the 1930s because it's a collection of stories rather than a novel. I don't know if any of the stories were previously published in pulp football magazines or if they're originals, but they would have been right at home. The title story is a short novel featuring Bo Hardy of Garrett High, who figures he should have been elected captain in his senior year, but he grows up enough to see the big picture. It's followed by a novelette called The Umbrella Formation, a very amusing story that's also a bit atypical because the hero, Big Ben, has a girl friend named Maizy and she's depicted positively. The book is rounded out by a pair of short stories, Number "23" and Polly Gets a Football, the latter revolving around a parrot, naturally enough. They're fun (if simplified) stories of a more innocent time; Norman Rockwell instead of Friday Night Lights." Craig from Goodreads.
